CHEDI SAM ONG (BURMESE
BORDER)
Marks the rugged Thai-Burmese border,
and is the site of a small but thriving border market. This is
the most important crossing point in the north to south mountain
range through which came the Burmese army to attack Audhaya.
ERAWAN WATERFALL
39 km from Pung-Waan Resort, is
the site of Erawan National Park. Here is found the seven-tiered
Erawan Waterfall which is widely regarded as being one of Thailand's
loveliest cascading waters amongst mother nature.
SRINAKARIN DAM
Located about 49 km. from Pung-Waan
Resort. Srinakarin Dam, named after the Princess Mother, is on
the Kwai Yai River. The reservoir created by the Dam is scenic
and popular among Thai tourist.
THE KANCHANABURI
WAR CEMETERY
On Saeng Chuto Road, opposite the
Railway Station, in immaculately maintained surroundings, contains
the remains of 6,982 Allied prisoners of war who perished during
the construction of the "Death Railway".
THE CHUNG-KAI WAR
CEMETERY
This is another cemetery, 2 km south
of town on the bank of the Kwai Noi River. It contains some 1,750
remains.
RIVER KWAI BRIDGE
The bridge, located just on the
outskirt of Kanchanaburi City, is a symbol of the "Death Railway"
like all the rest of this railway line, it was constructed during
1942 using manual labour of the Allied prisoners of war.
BAN KAO PRE-HISTORIC
MUSEUM
Situated only 8 km. from Prasat
Muang Sing, this is the place where evidences of Neolithic men
living about 4,000 years ago have been found. Skeleton remains,
pots and jars, tools, etc. found in the surrounding areas are
on display there.
PRASAT MUANG SING
HISTORICAL PARK
Situated about 35 km. from Pung-Waan
REsort, this Khmer ruin is believed to be the Westernmost outpost
of the empire centered around Ankor Wat. It is about 800 years
old.
SAI-YOK NOI WATERFALL
This waterfall is only 3 km. from
the Resort. Due to ecological changes in the surrounding areas,
this waterfall dries up during summer.
SAI-YOK YAI WATERFALL
One of the most popular Thai classical
songs, the Khmer Sai-yok describes how beautiful this waterfall
was when discovered more than 100 years ago. King Chulalongkorn,
inspired so much by its beauty, visited this waterfall a few times
during the last century.
HIN-DAT HOT SPRING
Located 55 km. from Pung-Waan Resort,
this hot spring is easily accessible by road. The facilities are,
however, somewhat primitive.
THE KAO LAEM DAM
95 km. from Pung-Waan Resort has
a scenic reservoir upon which several private raft complexes offer
opportunities for sightseeing by boat.
KROENG KRAWIA WATERFALL
A small beautiful waterfall near
Sunyataram temple where natural environment is still well preserved.
WANG WIWEGARAM TEMPLE
A beautiful Buddhist temple in which
lives one of the most revered monks by the name of Uttama.
